Welcome to the New Life ESL School website. We want to answer your questions about our school.
Where is the school?
Our school is located in the little building called the "Church Hall" behind the Kerrisdale Presbyterian Church at 41st and Trafalger.
What do we teach?
This year we will use a new curriculum called Ventures published by Cambridge University Press. It is a complete, standards-based 6 level ESL program which meets all Canadian language benchmarks. It uses real life school-wide topics to help students learn language they can use every day. You will work on conversation, pronunciation, reading, writing and listening.
Ventures core philosophy is:
Hear it before you say it.
Say it before you read it.
Read it before you write it.
Our placement testing will help us put you in the right level. We have Basic Level, Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, and Level 4. You must take a placement test before starting school.
The Contemporary English Bible is used for additional reading and study to help students better understand Canadian culture and language.
Every school day we have a 15 minute coffee break. It is the perfect time for students, volunteers and teachers to practice English conversation and to get to know each other.
How often are the classes?
